Fully Assembled and tested Spartan 3E FPGA Cocoon and USB Cocoon module. This combination is known as the "Butterfly Light" product.

The Butterfly Light is a combination of the following modules:
Xilinx FPGA Spartan 3E Cocoon
- Xilinx XC3S250E Spartan 3E FPGA with 250K Capacity.
- 8MHz Oscillator
- Two separate I/O banks with selectable Voltage levels of
1.2V, 2.5V, and 3.3V
Butterfly Platform USB Cocoon
- Two channel USB controller based on the FTDI FT2232.
- Provides JTAG programming for FPGA chips.
- Provides UART compatible communication channel.
- Power provided by the USB connector.
- Three power supplies for 1.2V, 2.5V, and 3.3V
Limitations
- The Butterfly Flight does not have any ability to retain its application when it is removed from power. Every time the hardware is plugged into the USB port the application needs to be loaded to the hardware. For prototyping or tethered applications this is desirable behavior, for stand alone applications there are projects in development to address this limitation.
NOTE: This item is powered by the USB bus only, the power jack is not populated on the USB Cocoon module. At this point there is no benefit to using the power jack so it is not populated to lower the overall cost of the board.This product was added to our catalog on Friday 17 July, 2009.
